The photo guide

  1. Photos beat video. A few clear stills of each area read far better than a long walkthrough — even six good photos beat a five-minute video.
  2. Get close on shelves. 6–12 inches from books, records, cards, and small stuff. Spines and labels are where the money hides.
  3. Uncover everything big. Sheet over something? Tarp? Pull it off and photograph what's under it. Covered items are the #1 thing that gets missed — and they're usually the valuable ones.
  4. Open the drawers. Tool chests, desks, cabinets — open, photograph the inside, move on.
  5. Catch the signatures. Paintings, plaques, carvings, the bottom of figurines: get a clear photo of any name, date, or maker's mark.
  6. Cover high and low. Photograph the wall tops and ceiling line, and the floor corners. Cameras miss edges; don't let yours.
  7. Tell us the stories. If a piece has a story — who made it, where it came from — jot it down or add a short clip. Stories become provenance, and provenance becomes value.
  8. Group by room. Keep each room's photos together — kitchen, then garage. Easier for you, cleaner for us.
